Members of Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union (AITUC) said that the government was turning a blind eye to the promises that had been made before the elections.
At a meeting held on Friday, B Venkatesam, secretary, said, “ The TRS party has promised negating auto taxes when they come into power. Promises were also made that auto drivers would be provided and protected with insurance and an auto driver welfare board would be set up. None of these have materialised.”
VS Bose, president, raised the issue of challans and demanded that GO 108 should be scrapped. He called upon the ruling party to save the auto drivers’ community.
“Lack of CNG supply is affecting the lives of the drivers and their families. A compensation of Rs 500 should be paid every day until the CNG supplies are resumed,” he demanded.
All the members raised their voice in unison against the harassment by private financiers. They sought the intervention of the government.
