The foundation had honoured these personalities in the city and had provided an opportunity to listen and interact with them for a few hours.

This year too, the foundation is set to bring Dr Achyuta Samanta who is a messiah for tribal children in Odisha. He will receive the prestigious Dr Pinnamaneni and Sitadevi Foundation Award on December 16. Dr Achyuta Samanta is known for his selfless service to provide free education to tribal children of Odisha through his Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). The two institutions have been providing free and quality education to over 25,000 tribal children.

The foundation was established in December 1989 in memory of Dr Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, a popular doctor of the city. The foundation has been honouring eminent persons in the fields of literature, culture, fine arts, medicine, science, sports and social service with Rs 2 lakh cash award and citation.

Dr Chadalavada Nageswara Rao and his wife Dr Sudha Nageswara Rao have been dedicatedly running the foundation for all these years.

“It is not so easy for people from this small city to listen to people of eminence like Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Dr Verghese Kurian and many others. The foundation had given us a chance to bring them all to this city and provide an opportunity for the citizen to listen to them directly,” says Dr Nageswara Rao.

Dr Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, in whose memory the foundation was formed, had always tried to keep the city on the world map. He led a group of like-minded people from the city and founded the prestigious Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education which runs more than a dozen educational institutions in the city turning the once ‘Sahara of Education’ into a hub of education.
