Nissan to launch Patrol in India.While Nissan’s operations in India may not have panned out as expected, the manufacturer is still optimistic about developing business in the country and will be expanding its portfolio with newer products this year.

While Nissan’s operations in India may not have panned out as expected, the manufacturer is still optimistic about developing business in the country and will be expanding its portfolio with newer products this year. Entering the premium luxury SUV space, the Japanese automaker is planning to launch the top-of-the-line Patrol seven-seater luxury SUV in India giving a boost to its image and it will be the most expensive offering to come from the iconic GT-R maker.

The Nissan Patrol is more popular for its dune bashing abilities and can be easily spotted in the Middle-East. Based on a ladder-on-frame construction, the Patrol offers massive road presence and is fit for travel on-or-off the tarmac. The SUV has also been updated with LED DRLs in recent times along with a new grille that add to the charm of the full-blown SUV. On the inside, the luxury SUV shares its interiors with the Infiniti QX80 (which shares its underpinnings with the Patrol) and certainly has a luxurious appeal with the beige themed leather upholstery, state-of-the-art creature comforts and lots of space.
Under the hood, the Nissan Patrol uses a 5.6-litre V8 engine that is good for 400 HP of power and a hefty 550 Nm of torque. Internationally, the SUV is offered in three transmissions including a 5-speed AT, 7-speed AT and a 6-speed manual options and India will most likely get the 7-speed AT that will be sending power to all four wheels via the ALL MODE 4×4 system. In addition, the SUV gets four different terrain settings – sand, snow, on-road and rock and electronic aids like Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist.
Being brought in as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), the Nissan Patrol won’t be coming in cheap and is expected to be priced over the Rs. 1 crore mark. Primarily competing against the legendary Toyota Land Cruiser LC 200, the Patrol will also lock horns against the Mercedes GL-Class, Audi Q7 and the Range Rover Sport in its class. Nissan India is taking a big plunge launching the Patrol in India, but volumes will not be a priority for the company considering it has already discontinued the fully imported X-Trail, 370 Z and the Teana sedan due to poor sales. Instead, the Nissan Patrol will act as more of a brand builder for the Japanese giant.
