In a bid to further increase its market share in the Indian two wheeler market, Honda Motorcycles & India Pvt. Ltd (HMIL) is focussing heavily on entry-level motorcycle and scooter range. The company is already the largest scooter manufacturer in India, thanks to the Activa range, and will increase its lead in the fast-growing segment by launching one more product.
The scooter this time will not be a yet another derivative of the Activa, but an all new 125cc scooter named the 'Lead' that is already on sale in markets like Vietnam and Japan. In fact, the company has already imported the scooter to India for testing purpose. Though the company hasn't revealed anything about the scooter, we expect it to be launched by this year's festive season.
Powering this scooter is a 125cc, single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is good for 11.33bhp. The 125cc scooter features Honda's 'Smart Power' technology that helps reduce friction and fuel consumption. The idling start-stop system will further help increase the scooter's fuel efficiency. Just so you know, the scooter has programmed fuel injection system.
Coming to the design, the Lead features a V-shaped chrome strip with indicators integrated into it. The LED units at the rear will add more to its appeal. Since it will be a more premium offering than the Activa range, expect it to be priced in the range of Piaggio Vespa. The company is planning to launch an even more powerful scooter - the PCX - that will feature a 153cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder PG-FI petrol unit.
