IDL ( Started in 1961, is now Gulf Oil Corporation Limited), National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) established in 1974, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited established in 1964, Bharat Heavy Electronics Limited (BHEL) R&D in 1974, Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) in 1965, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER, 2007), USHA fans company (now Usha International, 1962 ) Central Institute of Tool Design (CITD, 1968 ), Cooperative Industrial Estate Ltd ( 1965), State Bank of Hyderabad (1969), MSME-DI ( Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development Institute,1983) Khaithan fan companies, DIC ( district industries centre 1982 ) and many other small and tiny industries.
A spokesperson from DIC, Ranga Reddy district, said that there are more than 434 small and tiny industries with an investment of 57 crore, providing employment to 2,700 people. Balanagar is also a military area region, which has vast land and it belongs to central and military training institutes. The major neighbourhood areas of Balanagar are Begumpet, Sanath Nagar, Balakampet and the nearby localities are Adarsh Nagar, Bhagath Singh Nagar, Gandhi Nagar Industrial Area, Gautam Nagar, Giri Nagar, Gudement Nagar, Gurumurthy Nagar, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
Township, IDA, IDPL Colony, Indira Gandhi Nagar, Kukatpally Industrial Estate, Raju Colony, Sai Nagar, Saraband Nagar, Shobana Colony and Venkatarami Reddy. The famous Vimal Talkies has now been transformed as Vimal Centre and is the busiest business centre. Sobhna Talkies and Narasapur X Roads are very prominent areas and have all public sector banks, ATMs and other business establishments.
History
Goverdhan Patel, (75) an ex-police patel, in Balanagar, said, “Sir Kishen Pershad Bahadur was Prime Minister of Nizam for Hyderabad State, during his rule some areas were handed over to the Hindus and Muslim community were named as Ferozguda, Hasmathpet, Fathenagar, etc for identification purpose of Muslims and Balanagar for Hindus.
Some of the prominent Hindu people lived there with names such as Balaram, Balagoud, Balashanker, Balakrishna, Balaswamy, etc in due course it is named as Balanagar village, now turned into a Mega Balanagar Industrial Town Ship. Majority of the native people in this region are Goud's (DANDU) families.
Problems
Mahankali Shanker, a local leader, said, “The T junction flyover from Andhra Bank to BBR hospital was sanctioned for easing traffic woes. Though 98 crore was authorised for construction of the flyover during the period of Late) Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy, the project never took off. We appeal to the Telangana government to review the pending proposal and execute the project to curb the traffic problem at Balanagar.”
“Pollution is a major problem in the area too and it is more due to massive industrialisation, causing health hazards to the residents. There is a need to check the unauthorised structures, which have come up on the nalas and nearby areas,” he added.
