It’s not even a week since the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) took up the Swachh Hyderabad campaign and the streets in GHMC limits are already wearing an untidy look. This is evident from the overflowing garbage bin in front of the corporation’s head office building, while the Commissioner is on leave.

The condition is worse in Vombay Colony in LB Nagar, which was not even covered under the Swachh Hyderabad campaign, with 12 areas in the colony laying dirty since many weeks. “We are living in pathetic conditions and are forced to drink water contaminated by the drainage gushing out of manholes,” laments Vishnu, a resident of LB Nagar.
The campaign was nothing more than eyewash; colonies in Amberpet, Tarnaka are no cleaner with heaps of garbage lying indiscriminately at different places and garbage bins not being cleared since a week. “All the complaints registered with the civic body have gone to vain,” complaints Sudheer from Tarnaka.
