South Central Railway Employees Sangh (SCRES) staged a Rail Bachao Andolan on Thursday at Rail Nilayam to protest against the recommendations of the Bibek Debroy Committee Report. The employees demanded the scrapping of the report in the interest of the workforce.

Prabhaker Andrew, zonal president, SCRES, said, “Railway workers will not tolerate the sweeping changes of the Modi government in the name of ‘Make India’. A decade ago the Rakesh Mohan Committee Report was tabled which was criticised and shelved. The present government has reproduced the report with a new name which does not favour the employees.

The Britishes had set up the entire railway system over 150 years ago and since its employees got access to its hospitals, schools and various amenities. With the present recommendations, the government wants to strip the employees of all these benefits.”

The other major demands of the SCRES included scrapping the Railway Regulatory Authority of India, non-privatisation of fright and passenger train services, having a private security agency in place of RPF, integrating railway schools with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghathana etc. More than 600 employees from Hyderabad and Secunderabad participated in the programme.
