Just when you thought how peaceful it would be to walk around the historic Charminar devoid of the autos, a few somehow sneak past the traffic police. Within days after the traffic police diverted the autorickshaws in the buffer zone, some auto drivers just don’t care.

A few auto drivers on the pretext of taking patients to the Unani Hospital enter through the barricaded gaps. Autos coming from Madina through Nayapul have been diverted towards High Court, those coming from Shahalibanda towards Charminar are diverted towards Moghulpura Kaman.
Moosa, a resident of Alija Kotla, said, “The Charminar can only be saved if vehicular traffic is completely banned. The whole Charminar area has to be vehicle free.” The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had taken up the pedestranisation project but has failed in making the area vehicle free.
It is over a decade since the project started but Charminar is still facing the brunt of pollution from vehicles and as a result the colour is changing.
