Make your own terrarium workshop

A terrarium making workshop was held at Kalaachakra recently. It was a perfect day for a ‘green’ workshop. A terrarium is like an aquarium, not for fish but for plants. The aquarium can be made in just about any glass container. It is planted to look like a miniature garden or forest enclosed in its own little world.

The workshop was attended by 32 'green' enthusiasts. It was heartening to see kids as young as 10 years of age showing a keen interest in the names of plants as well as the finer nuances of growing plants in an enclosed place. Organiser Padma started with a demonstration of the basics of creating a terrarium.

The participants observed and made notes on when to layer the charcoal/soil, what plants to choose, what care needs to be taken etc. The participants then went on to create their own terrariums under Padma’s observation.
