FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) will organise a social communication session for 40 upcoming women drivers on Wednesday from 3-5 pm at Gunrock Hall, Near Gate No 4, Gunrock Enclave, Diamond Point. The orientation session is being planned on the occasion of United Nations Youth International Skill Development Day.

40 women drivers have been shortlisted out of 200 as part of the skill development initiative titled ‘Women in Transport’ for empowering women free of cost in association with the Government of Telangana and Maruti Suzuki Driving School. ‘Women in Transport’ is the national initiative of FICCI FLO under which it will train 1,500 women across the country and 150 to 200 women in Hyderabad. If there is more demand, more will be trained in driving, communication and etiquette.

The orientation is planned as part of this imitative. FLO has already commenced four batches of driving skills training for 40 women in Begumpet and Nampally. The first batch kicked off on June 9. “FLO has been in touch with NGOs like APSA, COWA and its members to support the initiative by identifying 180 – 200 women from slums.

Identifying these needy women, motivating them to take up the training has been a gigantic task as most of them wanted to learn driving for knowledge and not for becoming drivers,” said FLO chairperson Rakha Lahoti.

FLO wants more women from the lower strata of the society to utilise this opportunity of free training and stand on their own feet by earning extra income for the house. Any women who has passed SSC and is in the age group of 18-35 with family income of not more than Rs 3 lakh may contact FLO office on 040 23395277/ 07032298148.
