Under the Swadesh darshan scheme of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Mahbubnagar has been chosen to be developed as an eco-tourist centre. Rs 107 crore has been sanctioned to develop roads, jetties, illumination of Lakshmi temple, development of open plaza for festivals, landscaping and solar lighting at Uma Maheshwaram Temple which is 6km from Achampet apart from other developmental projects.

A high-level delegation from the Union Tourism Ministry comprising Additional Director General (PSW) Bharati Sharma and Vaibhav Prakash, Associate (PMC) visited the district on Monday and Tuesday which was followed by a meeting with officials from the Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSRTC) in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
As part of the eco-tourist circuit Somasila Riverside Development, Singotam Reservoir, Akka Mahadevi Caves, Uma Maheshwaram Temple, Farahabad, Mallelatheertham and Egalapenta would be developed.
