In spite of assurances from Defence minister Manohar Parrikar and MP Malla Reddy, the Army started the construction of a gate near Allahabad Gate. B T Srinivasan, general secretary, United Federation of Residents Welfare Association, said, “The construction activity is just a show of high-handedness and willfully done to cause inconvenience to people.”
Col Rao, a resident of Sainikpuri, said, “People have been using the roads for over five decades and unless the GHMC does not take up work on alternate roads the Army has to accommodate civilian vehicles.”
