Gone are the days of hurrying through traffic to reach hospitals in time. In fact, when it comes to attending to ailments, we might just be going back in time. Treatments are easily available at your door step, and are here to stay

In the olden days, doctors and nurses visited homes with their medical kit for administering treatment to patients. This was certainly stress-free for patients, who could feel at home and for their families, who could be relieved of care-taking.

Perhaps, we are seeing that this system is gaining popularity again, thanks to private and corporate hospitals reviving the age-old system.

A retired doctor from a government hospital in the city, Dr Devi Prasad explains, “In the past, homecare was common and patients hardly visited hospitals. But, due to the lack of medical equipment and required facilities, offering such treatment has grown less popular.”

However, homecare services are once again very much in demand among those who live busy, stressful lives and are unable to devote adequate care for their loved ones, despite wanting to do so.

Experts in healthcare services vouch for homecare treatment, observing that it is a helpful option, especially for the elderly and pregnant women. Another reason contributing to the popularity of homecare services is that it decreases the risk of health hazards and medical carelessness by immediately addressing concerns.

In the advent of the latest technologies, some of the home healthcare services like Heritage Healthcare provide doctors, nurses and technical staff with equipment to perform procedures like X-Rays and ECGs, around the clock.

Recently, Apollo joined the home healthcare system in Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi providing elderly care, post-surgery care, treatment of chronic illness and home specialty.

Dr Mahesh Joshi, CEO of Apollo Homecare explains, “Apollo Homecare will be supported by four centres of excellence namely Homecare Management, Homecare Hub, Homecare Clinical Excellence and Homecare Learning.”

With options such as this coming to the forefront, here’s hoping to see other government, corporate and private hospitals to likely make a beeline to provide the same convenience.
