When a couple flashed their visiting card with a hashtag to one of the vendors at the India Wedding Show at Hitex recently, the vendor was so surprised that hashtags existed for such occasions, too.

Uma Devi Gurkapally a visitor at the India Wedding Show said that nearly 50 per cent of weddings in the west have wedding hashtags.

When asked, Keerthana another visitor at the expo, about the relevance of such hashtags, she agreed saying, “Why not? Although, this is new for me, it is totally cool. It is important to pick the right hashtag for the wedding, though. It must relate to the theme and the place setting.”

The real challenge is to create a catchy and easy to remember hashtag. There’s a solution for that, as well. Online tools and hashtag generators are available in a click. All you have to do is to type your name or names of two going to wed, family name and unique numbers into the free online tool. And, voila! It’s done.

#HowToHashtag?

Wedding hashtags need to be simple; the best ones involve a good pun or play on an idiom. They must keep things lighthearted and fun. Also check if any of your names rhyme with a wedding word. Capitalisation is very important to avoid confusion and misspellings or awkward misreading. Dont have long hashtags (#LongStringsOfWordsAreAnnoying). And, don’t forget to include a call action.

Avoid misspellings. Also avoid generic hashtags, such as #wedding or #NupitalKnot. This will make impossible to track the tweets and posts.
