The SKILLS 2015 International Conference on “Life Skills and Livelihood Skills – for achieving and sustaining a Clean India” was inaugurated at the National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (NIMSME) on Thursday.
Bandaru Dattatreya, Minister for Labour and Employment and other dignitaries were present on the inauguration day.
The conference coincides with World Toilet Day that is marked on November 19. Dattatreya advocated that for every 20 students, there should be at least one toilet. “Far more people in India have access to a cell phone than to a toilet and improved sanitation,” he said.
The conference aims to provide impetus to the ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India) Campaign in realising its objectives. Speaking after the inauguration, Bandaru Dattatreya stressed the need for clean India and appreciated the organisers of SKILLS 2015 who have come forward to address the crucial aspect of skill development needed for achieving and sustaining Clean India.
“Sanitation for all has been a vision of Mahatma Gandhi who believed that it is more important than Independence. Swachh Bharat campaign realises that cleanliness is three dimensional-Clean Mind, Clean Body and Clean Surrounding,” said Dattatreya.
Eminent political leaders like Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Kodela Siva Prasad Rao, Convenor for Swachh Bharat AP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and Member of Parliament Chevella Consituency Jawahar Reddy KS attended the conference along with policy makers, government officials, educators, business executives and training professionals from around the world.
The speakers exchanged ideas and discussed initiatives on sanitation to provide practical inputs to make Swachh Bharat Campaign a success and take it to all parts of rural and urban India.
