History

According to history, Langar means "a chain used to tether an elephant". During the Nizam rule a golden langar was donated to a Muslim recluse by the Queen. Later, this was cut into small pieces and distributed among holy men as Jagir.

According to another legend, during the period of Muslim Bahmani Sultanate, Langar was the place where food was cooked and served to people of all religions with love and affection and hence it came to be called as Langar House.

Problems

Locals complain of heavy traffic congestion leading to accidents near the flyover. There is no underground drainage system and drinking water supply is twice a week for only about an hour with low pressure. The streetlights are poor and there are no public urinals.

Footpaths encroachments cause inconvenience to pedestrians, who are forced to walk on the roads. The Assistant Commissioner of Police for Traffic, Tolichowki, P Jaipal stated, “There is an urgent need for widening the road to accommodate the increasing number of road users and heavy vehicular traffic.

We are removing the illegal encouragements on the footpaths.”
