Hyderabad: The eagerly awaited rugged sporting action in the form of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is back to sweep millions of fans off their feet. It is coming packaged as a pep-oriented larger version.
Adding to the excitement for the fans in the two Telugu speaking States, Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam are being made integral to the third season, which gets off at Port Stadium in Steel City on January 30.
The schedule was announced in Hyderabad on Friday; Visakhapatnam will host all the matches of the first leg while Tollywood celebrity Daggubati Rana has been roped as the brand ambassador for PKL to make the Telugu link thrice joyful.
This Telugu-orientation was evident in the exuberance displayed by Charu Sharma, Director of Mashal Sports, which, along with Star Sports, is jointly collaborating the hugely successful championship that runs through till March 5. He underscored the popularity of the Indian-origin sport by asserting that it would be a bi-annual affair hereafter.
Stating that PKL has ushered in a silent but forceful sports revolution in the country, the eminent commentator said that a credit for the success ought to go to the promoters of Telugu Titans Srini Sreeramineni and his team, which jumped at the idea of the League soon after the concept was put before to him.
The third season will begin with a match between host Telugu Titans and defending champions U Mumba. Around 26 players from 11 nations will be seen in action in the eight-team championship.
Anupam Goswami from STAR India and K Sai Prasad from MAA TV (both enjoy live telecast rights) said “Pro Kabaddi had taken the television audience by storm despite being just two editions young. There is a growing passion for the sport and this success helps us in our goal of encouraging sporting talent and nurturing heroes.”
Daggubati said “I am extremely happy to be associated with PKL. Kabaddi has always been a fun-sport, which we grew up watching. I hope to make Le Panga a by-word in every household.”
Sreeramineni, who introduced their star player Rahul Chaudhari, stated that it was a matter of immense inspiration to every team member that Rahul had achieved for Uttar Pradesh who no captain could for the State team in the past 63 years-winning the symbol of domestic kabaddi supremacy.
Rahul said he would aim to win the cup this time around for the team.
