It may be mentioned here that all the three candidates of major political parties pitted against one another for the Narayankhed by-election have a political lineage. The bypoll was necessitated after the death of sitting Congress MLA P Kishta Reddy in August 2015.
Congress has fielded P Sanjeeva Reddy, son of P Kishta Reddy as its candidate. He is a doctor by profession and has held various positions in DCC. He served as the ZPTC of Narayankhed from 2006 to 2011. In 2013 local body elections, he won as MPTC from Narayankhed mandal. He was elected as the Mandal Parishad President in 2014.
TDP and TRS candidates M Vijayapal Reddy and M Bhoopal Reddy are both brothers, who served as Panchayat Samithi President and was elected twice as the MLA of Narayankhed in the past. Shakuntala, their mother, too served as ZPTC of Kalher.
M Vijayapal Reddy, TDP candidate, has served as Narayankhed MLA from 1994 to 1999. He served as TDP district and state secretary and has been the in-charge of Narayankhed constituency for TDP. In 2004, he represented TDP and in 2009, he represented Praja Rajyam Party in the general elections, but was defeated.
M Bhoopal Reddy, TRS candidate had started his political career in 1990 and was elected twice as Krishnapur PACS chairman. He also worked as DCCB Director and DCMS Vice-president. He was also the TDP Kalher Mandal President for two years. In 2008, he joined the TRS and unsuccessfully contested for Nara- yankhed seat in 2009 and 2014.
