The Railways has come out with a mobile app for paperless unreserved tickets on suburban (MMTS) section on Wednesday. The Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu launched the app through remote video link from New Delhi. He also launched handheld terminals for TTEs on Northern Railway and e-booking of bed rolls at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin Stations.

The Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu launched the app through remote video link from New Delhi. He also launched handheld terminals for TTEs on Northern Railway and e-booking of bed rolls at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin Stations.

Booking of tickets is allowed only beyond 15 mts from the Station/Railway track. The booking of journey tickets is allowed within the radius of 5 km of the journey commencing station and for the Platform tickets up to a distance of 2 km from the journey station. However, for booking/renewal of season tickets there is no such restriction.

Suburban (MMTS) Journey tickets, Season Tickets and Platform Tickets can be booked using this application. Renewal of Season Tickets can be done 10 days in advance. The app can be utilised for booking Unreserved tickets at Secunderabad/Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. To check the legitimacy of the Paperless Tickets booked by the passengers, TTE’s are provided with a Mobile TTE App.

The Paperless Mobile Ticketing supports Android and Windows Operating System which is available in Google Play and Windows. The R-wallet recharge can be done at all UTS booking counters over Indian Railways or by visiting http://www.utsonmobile.indianrail.gov.in.

Speaking at the launch, V Hanumantha Rao, Rajya Sabha member said that the railway authorities need to draw their attention to the general compartments also and not just cater to VIPs. “Though the launch of mobile apps is welcome and commendable the second and general compartments stink and there was a need for surprise checks,” he said.

Ravindra Gupta, General Manager; Anil Kumar Gupta, Additional General Manager; M.Papi Reddy, Chief Commercial Manager, Ashesh Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division; Aruna Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Hyderabad Division, SCR; Ravi Valluri, Chief General Manager, Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS), Secunderabad were amongst the Railway Officials present.
