Hyderabad: Justice PV Sanjay Kumar of the High Court at Hyderabad on Thursday directed the officials of the Home department to submit records and facts relating to the suicide of research scholar Rohit Vemula of University of Hyderabad by February 17.

The judge was dealing with a petition filed by Podile Appa Rao, Vice Chancellor of UoH seeking to quash the case registered against him on charges of abetting to the suicide of Rohit Vemula in Gachibowli police station. The counsel for the petitioner pointed out that since the petitioner took charge as Vice Chancellor in September 2015, he took steps to revoke the suspension order and hence could not be attributed as an abettor to the suicide.

When the counsel cited certain portion of suicide letter to prove his contentions, the judge enquired whether he was in possession of the suicide letter and the counsel replied in negative and explained that he had extracted the relevant portion of the latter as far as concerned with the petitioner. The judge directed the authorities to submit all documents including the suicide note and adjourned the case.
