The Carriage Workshop at Lallaguda is all set for ISO 50001 certification for energy management and ISO 3834 for welding management by the end of this year. 

The Carriage Workshop at Lallaguda is all set for ISO 50001 certification for energy management and ISO 3834 for welding management by the end of this year. The information came from Chief Workshops Engineer of the South Central Railway (SCR), KP Som Kuwar during a media visit to the workshop on Monday.

• The workshop is gearing up with Periodic Overhaul (POH) of coaches once in two years
• All set for ISO 5001 and ISO 3834 certification for energy and welding management

The workshop has spent Rs 30 crore towards modernisation out of Rs 90 crore sanctioned. Presently, there are 3,500 workers at the facility. The Carriage Workshop maintains about 5,000 coaches/bogies with a similar workshop near Tirupati.

About 135 coaches get overhauled every month at the Lallaguda workshop. The Carriage workshop has been in the forefront in POH of coaches and is known to be the first such facility on Indian Railways to implement Information Technology (IT) enabled Workshop Information System for coach maintenance procedures.

Overhauling of all types of passenger carrying coaches include Integral Coach Factory and Rail Coach Factory designed coaches, Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU), Diesel Hydraulic Multiple Unit (DHMU), Multi Modal Transport Service (MMTS), Link Hofmann Busch (LHB) and Double Decker coaches. Apart from these, the workshop also maintains Accident Relief Trains (ARTs) and Medical Relief Vans (MRVs), Inspection Cars.
