The All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS) conducted a dharna at Indira Park on Wednesday demanding for declaration of Telangana State as drought-affected.

The All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS) conducted a dharna at Indira Park on Wednesday demanding for declaration of Telangana State as drought-affected.

In other demands, the Sabha has called for the Central government to release Rs 5,000 crore to take up relief measures on war footing.

Speaking at the dharna, B Chandra Kumar, High Court (Retd. Judge), said, “Due to severe drought, crops are failing and farmers are unable to pay their loan obligations. They are risking their life and committing suicides.

There are many farmers who are at a great loss due to no fault of their own and have become victims to nature’s fury.”

Justice Kumar demand that the government to pay Rs six lakh each to farmers who underwent heavy loss and committed suicide.

“The rehabilitation measures should be taken on war footing to save the farming community who are the backbone of our country,” he added.

V Koteshwar Rao, president of the AIKMS and Vemula Palli Venkatramaigh (CPI) spoke on the sufferings of the farming community and demanded the government take immediate steps to save farmers.
