Hanamkonda: Libraries should keep themselves abreast of changing trends and adopt modern technology to meet the requirements of readers, suggested Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari.

The libraries should be equipped with computer systems, internet facility including wifi to ensure quality services in tune with the readers’ preferences, he said. The Deputy CM has launched the ‘National Library Week' celebrations at the district library in Hanamkonda on Monday.

On part of the government, measures were being taken to establish branch libraries in all the 31 districts soon and to modernise existing public libraries.

The books recommended by the library committee and to cater the needs of students would be provided at the libraries, Srihari said. He asked the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation councillors to ensure that pending dues would be released to the district library.

The Joint Collector, who acts as the district library person in-charge, should make efforts towards release of dues. Library cess collected by local bodies and patronisation of readers would play key role in sustaining the libraries, he said adding libraries played an important role during independence struggle and progress of the society.

The Deputy CM further said that 572 libraries with about 68 lakh books have been serving the readers in the State. He directed the officials to provide study material useful for the students appearing for competitive examinations.

Srihari offered floral tributes to a portrait of the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru and appealed the public and officials to make efforts for the protection of child rights.

Later he inaugurated the reverse osmosis (RO) water plant set up at the library for the benefit of the readers. Joint Collector S Dayanand informed that so far Rs 1.51 crores have been collected towards library cess in the current financial year.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson G Padma, Wardhannapet MLA A Ramesh, Joint Collector S Dayanand also spoke on the occasion.

Library Week celebrations at KITSW
Department of library of KITS Warangal has organised a programme at the College on Monday, marking Library Week celebrations. Dean (administration) P Ramesh Reddy said every person, especially students, should make it a habit visit libraries in order to spread his knowledge.

The KITSW Director, Y Manohar, said the College has been providing the facilities such as NPTEL Laboratory, open access system, online public access catalogue (OPAC), SC and ST Book Bank, reference section, periodical section and digital library.

In-charge librarian R Lalitha, assistant librarian K Indrasena Reddy, PRO D Prabhakara Chary and staff were present.
