Warangal: They may have left the Indian shores a couple of centuries ago to make a living in Malaysia, but their heart still pounds for their home land, culture and tradition.

Manifesting their cultural longing, a group of children of Malaysian Telugus embarked on a weeklong tour to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Friday. Thanks to the Telangana Jagruthi, a non-government forum aimed at preserving the unique cultural heritage of the region, which sponsored the visit of the children.

Telugu Association of Malaysia honorary secretary ADR Naidu, who headed the entourage, told to The Hans India: “This is a huge opportunity for the children to learn culture and heritage of the land of their forefathers.” As part of the tour, the children visited Fort Warangal, Bhadrakali, 1,000 Pillars and Ramappa temples on Friday. The children are scheduled to visit Vijayawada on Saturday.

“MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the founder-president of the Telangana Jagruthi, has invited them to give an opportunity to learn about the culture and tradition of their home land,” Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Corporator and Jagruthi vice-president Vijay Bhaskar said. It may be noted here that though all the children are said to be sixth generation of Malaysian Telugus, they are fluent in their mother tongue.
