Ducking NBW is all but impossible here

Warangal: Ducking a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) is no easy business in Warangal Police Commissionerate compared to elsewhere in the country. It’s true that the Commissionerate has kept its slate clean again for the second successive year by executing all the NBWs in its jurisdiction, a no mean achievement by any standards. It may be noted here that in 2015, Warangal became first in the country to achieve the distinction of being free from pending NBWs. Then the Commissionerate executed 80-odd NBWs which were pending over a decade.

Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu, who pioneered several initiatives of smart policing to make Warangal safe and secure, has his focus also on executing the NBWs 100 per cent, since he assumed the office. His efforts were proved effective in bringing the accused to the court of law. But it needed a meticulous planning as many of the accused were located in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, AP etc.

“It didn’t happen overnight. It needed a lot of pursuit and perseverance to get the accused produced before the court,” Sudheer Babu said, stating that it didn’t augur well for the society if people with criminal record go scot free ducking the arrest warrant at their will.
The execution of warrants invariably expedites the trials thus helping the reduction of pendency of cases in the courts, he said, stating that they have cleared all 1,070 NBWs this year. Incidentally, the number of NBWs executed in 2015 and 2016 are identical.

As a result, the rate of conviction in crimes also went up this year with more than 1,000 convictions, it’s learnt. It may be noted here that the ambit of Commissionerate is now spread across Warangal Urban, Rural and Jangaon after the reorganisation of districts.Speaking to The Hans India, Telangana–Andhra Pradesh Bar Council Chairman A Narsimha Reddy, who is all praise for the Commissionerate’s achievement, said: “It not only helps quick disposal of cases but it also creates a sense of trust on the system.”Telangana-AP Bar Council Member and Warangal Bar Association former president M Sahodar Reddy said that the development reflects effective policing in the region.
