Hanamkonda: State government is lacking commitment towards Warangal city development alleged the district Congress President N Rajender Reddy and the party councillors in the GWMC.Despite the repeated statements by CM K Chandrashekar Rao on developing the city on par with State capital Hyderabad nothing concurrent is happening at the ground level. Speaking to media here on Thursday, he complained that the tri-cities of Telangana, Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet, went back 20 years in terms of development. There is no coordination between the officials, councillors and MLAs under the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation.

Warangal, the second biggest city in Telangana after Hyderabad should stand as a model of development but, on the contrary, the GWMC is compelled to take study tours to Khammam city to study development. This reflects the sad state of affairs in the corporation and the neglect of government, the Congress leader explained.

The CM’s promise of allocating Rs 300 crore every year to the corporation was just a false one. A cash cheque for transfer of Rs 75 crore submitted to the district treasury office could not be released even after one month due lack of funds, he stated referring to newspaper reports.

Even after two and half years, the CM has failed to deliver the promise of constructing an underground drainage system in the city, within three months after coming to power. The same is the case of water tap connection for Rs 1, meals for Rs 5, pensions, 2BHK and development of villages merged with the GWMC, Rajender Reddy lamented.

Crores of public money is being looted as the ruling party leaders are colluding with the contractors, organisations quoting high valued tenders for the works, he said and demanded to convene the corporation council meeting immediately to discuss the above issues.
The ruling party MLAs and councillors should quit for failing to develop the city. Congress party would stage serious protests against government laxity towards the city development. A meeting with like-minded parties would be convened to chalk out protest programmes, he warned.

Rajender Reddy faulted notices issued to the Housing Board Colony and Vajpayee Colony residents on demolishing the structures in dilapidated conditions. The corporation if concerned about safety of the residents should carry out repairs not demolition, he said.
City Congress working President Rajanala Srihari, President K Srinivasa Rao, councillors V Srinivas, T Raju, L Mounika and J Rama, TPCC Secretary E V Srinivas Rao, leaders M Sridhar Goud, N Laxma Reddy and others were present.
