Nizamabad: District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana urged officials of the departments concerned to take steps for the modernisation of medical colleges and government hospitals so that better facilities and services could be made available to the patients.

Participating in a meeting with officials of various departments and the representatives of the Tata Company at the Collectorate on Monday, said that the medical and para-medical staff in government hospitals should provide services in a spirit of social service and not for making profits.

She said that the patients should be treated in a friendly and polite way. Ultra-modern medical equipment should be set up in the government hospitals to upgrade the facilities, she added.

The District Collector said that pregnant women should be encouraged and persuaded to undergo deliveries in government hospitals.

She said that most of the expectant mothers were going to the private hospitals to deliver babies and that was way, the facilities at government hospitals should be on par with those in private hospitals.

She said that caesarian operations were being conducted unnecessarily in private hospitals only to make money.

Collector Rana said that nutritious food and milk should be supplied at anganwadi centres to women and children for their healthy growth. Diagnostic tests should be conducted on the children to get information on their health, she added.

Dwelling on the subject of education in government and private schools, she said that in private and corporate schools, heavy amounts of fee were being collected.

Efforts should be made to provide top class facilities in government schools also so that student intake could be increased, she added.

The District Collector said that farmers should be able to get a good yield for their produce and for this, all the necessary facilities should be made available to the farming community, she added.

Assistant Collector Rahul Raj, District Medical and Health Officer Dr Venkat, DRDA project director Venkateshwarlu, Audit officer Ramu and others were present.
