Representatives of more than 25 colonies in Secunderabad Cantonment, especially in and around Yapral, Bolarum, Ammuguda and the headmaster of Valerian Grammar School at Bolarum wrote a letter to the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikkar requesting to reopen the roads.

Swarnaraj Sivamani, corporator, Division 1, said that people from colonies in Sainikpuri, Vayupuri and Old Kapra have been complaining about the difficulties due to road closure. Rev Fr Mettu J Reddy, headmaster, Valerian Grammar School said, “The school was established in 1961. Ever since the roads closed the strength of the school dropped from 2,200 students to 800.”

The roads from Lakdawala towards Yapral, Risala Bazaar towards RSI and other roads connecting the school have been closed and as a result, students coming from Alwal, Lothukunta, Bolarum, Risala Bazaar, Venkatapuram and Sainikpuri have to take a much longer route.

A temple priest and his family who used to reside in the premises are now not allowed to stay back at nights. Sudheer, a resident of Ammuguda said, “The Sree Veeranjaneya Swamy temple has a lot of devotees and people are questioning why the Army officials are not allowing the priest and his family to stay at nights. It is not convenient for the priest to travel every day.”
