Speaking at a programme organised on the occasion of ‘National Voters Day’ here at TNGO’s Bhavan in Khammam on Wednesday, M Lakshman, who presided over the function as chief guest, said by recognising the importance of voters, the Election Commission of India was organising various programmes across the country to create awareness among the people about utilising the right of vote.

“By electing the suitable candidate, people must protect the values of democracy and must create good environment in the society,” advised the District Magistrate.

District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar said many people who were in between the age group of 18 and 25 were not enrolling their names in the voters list due to which there was less percentage of voting in the past 10 years.

“Youth must come forward and enrol their names in the voters list and exercise their franchise. If youth involve actively in voting, a right candidate will be elected who would strive for the welfare of people,” suggested the Collector. District Joint Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy earlier in the morning inaugurated the Voters’ Day Rally, which was held from Pavilion Grounds to TNGO’s Building.

Later the District Magistrate handed over prizes to the students who won the competitions organised on the occasion of the National Voters Day apart from felicitating the senior citizens who utilised their vote for more number of times.
