Karimnagar: The district officials were directed to take necessary steps to organise National Deworming Day successfully on February 10.

District Revenue Officer Ayesha Masrath Qanam chaired a meeting with officials of concerned department at the Collectorate conference hall here on Friday to discuss the arrangements for organising National Deworming Day.

Speaking at the meeting, she told the officials to distribute medicines freely in Anganwadi centres, schools and colleges for administering to the children between the age group of one to 19 years, to prevent intestinal worms.

She observed that these intestinal worms will infect the children when they eat food without washing their hands, by the habit of open defecation and living in unhygienic surroundings.

Children will suffer with anaemia, loss of appetite, severe stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting.

The intestinal worms could be prevented by taking medicine distributed freely on the occasion of National Deworming Day, she said.

Qanam directed the officials of Women and Child Protection, DRDA, MEPMA departments to coordinate with each other to make the programme successful and also ordered them to administer medicine on February 15 to the children, who were unable to take the medicine on February 10.

District Medical and Health Officer Dr Rajesham, District Immunisation Officer Dr Juveria, Dr Pavan Kumar Reddy, Dr Sujatha and health officials of Primary Health Centre were present along with others.
