Hanamkonda: Atrocities on dalits in Telangana have increased ever since the TRS government came to power, alleged Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) president Manda Krishna Madiga.

He said the State government instead of preventing atrocities has been neglecting the issue. In many cases the ruling party MLAs were found involved in murdering and attacking the dalits. The police too have been supporting the perpetrators.

Speaking to presspersons in Hanamkonda on Wednesday, Krishna Madiga called upon dalit community and all those, who uphold democratic rights, to wear black badges and display black flags during BR Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations on April 14 across the State.

It was meant to express protest against government’s apathy towards dalits rights, he said. Quoting a report released by State police, the MRPS leader explained that during 2014 to 2016 nearly 86 dalits were killed, 433 dalit women were sexually abused and as many as 4,000 dalits were attacked.

So many incidents of violence have not taken place against dalits in such a short time in the country. In majority of cases it was either the ruling legislators or the police were involved, he lamented.

“For instance, Yellareddy MLA E Ravinder Reddy has encroached dalits’ land and when dalits questioned him, they were attacked by the MLAs’ men. Police booked an FIR in the case but none were arrested.”

“Similarly, Armoor MLA A Jeevan Reddy murdered a dalit leader T Satyam of RPI for making allegations against him. But his death was shown as a road accident and the lorry which hit the dalit belonged to MLAs’ brother.”

“In recent incident at Manthani, MLA Putta Madhu’s relatives have murdered a dalit youth Madhukar, who had a love affair with a girl from the MLAs’ kin. With the pressure from the MLA the incident was depicted as suicide,” Krishna Madiga complained.

The situation in the State now resembled the feudal dominance that existed four decades ago before the beginning of naxal movement. The dalits were worried over their safety and protection of their rights, he said.

But SC/ST Commission which meant to protect the community rights was made defunct as the government failed to appoint a chairman. The Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, concerned minister and police officials supposed to meet at regular intervals to review the State of dalits’ welfare. But no such meetings were held so far, the MRPS leader pointed out.
