Jupally Krishna Rao calls for protecting planted saplings
Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao appealed to people to ensure that the saplings planted as part of Haritha Haram do not wither and take steps for protecting them. He urged people to be part of the plantation drive and plant as many number of saplings as possible as the plants stand a very good chance of surviving owing to good rainfall in the state.

The Minister held a review meeting on the green drive, Swachh Bharat, employment guarantee scheme and others at Nagarkurnool on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said: “It is our duty to plant and protect the saplings at schools, colleges, educational institutions, offices, parks and other places.
This will help us fight pollution and get more rainfall for farming. This year, the state government will honour the people, institutions and others with prizes for achieving better results in the Haritha Haram programme,” he informed.
The Minister said workers of employment guarantee scheme were playing a key role in Haritha Haram programme. “The government wants to make the State cent per cent free from the problem of open defecation,” he said, adding that it would be possible only when people voluntarily come forward to construct and use individual toilets by taking government help.
Jupally assured to transform Kollapur into an ideal town for both MNREGA works and Haritha Harm by active involvement of public and coordination of the departments concerned.
Ecological balance
It is everyone’s responsibility to help maintain ecological balance and increase the green cover by planting more number of trees for a better future, advised Khammam Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal.
The top cop participated in the third phase of Haritha Haram programme along with students and planted a sapling on the premises of Saint Ann’s High School at Venkatapuram village of Mudigonda mandal on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner of Police urged people to participate actively in the plantation drive and contribute their mite for increasing green cover and maintaining ecological balance
“It is our responsibility to hand over a greener planet to our future generations. Especially, the youth and students must create awareness among people about the importance of plants and must make them realise how one can mitigate environmental issues by planting large number of saplings,” he suggested.
The CP further informed that the police department has so far dropped as many as seven lakh seed balls and necessary steps were taken for dropping more of them in coming up days.
Later, Tafseer Iqbal visited the Mudigonda police station and planted saplings on its premises. Khammam Rural Assistant Commissioner of Police K Suresh Kumar, Circle Inspector Thirupathi Reddy and Sub-Inspector Karunakar were present along with students and the management and staff of the school.
