Kothagudem: District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu said the State government has sanctioned Rs 29 crore for the uplift of fishermen community. Addressing an awareness programme on fishlings held at Sujatha Nagar on Monday, the Collector said the government has set a target to distribute 1.92 lakh fishlings.

“As many as 2,896 members have enrolled into 53 Fishermen’s Cooperative Societies. The distribution programme will commence in a week. Fish market will be setup and vehicles will be distributed to beneficiaries from the funds allocated,” he said, adding that government would supply food for fishlings at 75 per cent subsidy.

“There are 152 small tanks and 87 tanks under the departments concerned. Fishlings will be allocated on the basis of the size of the tanks. Fishermen will be informed two days prior to releasing fishlings into the tanks,” he added.

District Fisheries Department Official Buchhi Babu, Fishermen’s Cooperative Society president Chandraiah, Director Nagewara Rao, DCCB Director Veera Hanumantha Rao, ATMA Committee Chairman Pichhi Reddy, sarpanches of Sujatha Nagar and Singabhupalem Gram Panchayats, members of fishing community were present.
