Kothagudem: Joint Collector M Ramkishan on Monday directed the officials concerned to work with dedication in extending loans to people belonging to the Scheduled Castes.

Reviewing the progress of loans extended to SCs at Collectorate, Ramkishan said the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district has 18 per cent of the State’s SC population, who make up for 53 per cent of the Telangana population.

In the name of implementation of 1/70 Act, suspending disbursement of loans and seeds to the poorest of the poor was not justified, he said.

Though the district has vast land resources, 1/70 Act was tying the people’s hands, he pointed out. He suggested advancing loans to the needy taking one resource or the other into account and encourage the unemployed towards entrepreneurship.

He asked the officials concerned to submit a report on the total number of beneficiaries and the quantum of amount needed to disburse loans to them.

SC Welfare Officer Maheshwar, District Rural Development Officer Jagat Kumar Reddy, DMHO Dayanand Swamy and other officials took part in the review meeting.
