Bhupalpally/Jangaon: The members of Joint Action Committee of Teachers Organisation (JACTO) have staged a protest demanding restoration of old pension scheme in the place of contributory pension scheme.

The members of the JAC, consisting 21 different teachers unions, have taken out a protest rally and staged dharna at the district Collectorates of Bhupalpally and Jangaon following a state-wide protest call in view of the resolution by JACTO steering committee made on August 5.

The contributory pension scheme (CPS) introduced on September 1, 2004 by the Central government was against the interests of the government employees, especially the teaching community. The Centre after introducing the CPS has left the decision of implementing the scheme to respective State governments.

Following which the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government implemented the scheme and the same was being continued by the Telangana government. As a result, nearly 1.20 lakh teachers and staff were left to face insecurity post retirement, the leaders pointed out.

There was no response to the several representations made to the State government at different levels seeking to give up implementation of the CPS and restore old pension scheme. In view of which, it was decided to stage protests across the State, they explained.

At Bhupalpally, JACTO leaders P Madhusudhan, Shaik Haji Nurani, P Suryanarayana, V Jyothi, S Veeraswamy, R Srinivas, D Kumaraswamy, E Ramesh and

others have submitted a memorandum to district revenue officer P Mohan Lal.

At Jangaon, JACTO state steering committee member T Narasimha Murthy, leaders of different teachers unions A Malla Reddy, B Anjaneyulu, L Lalma Naik, M Ramesh, Y Ashok, Md. Abdul Aleem, A Narasimha Reddy and others took part in the protest.
