Two activists of banned CPI Maoist party have surrendered before Rahul Hegde BK, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Eturunagaram, on Tuesday.

Eturunagaram (Bhupalpally): Two activists of banned CPI Maoist party have surrendered before Rahul Hegde BK, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Eturunagaram, on Tuesday.

The Maoist activists were identified as the party Usoor militia platoon section commander Podiyam Lakku and militia member Sodi Laxmi. Both Lakku and Laxmi, who were Guthikoyas, belong to Singanpally village of Usoor taluk in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh State, informed the ASP.

Giving details of the surrendered Maoists, he said Lakku, who studied 9th class at Usoor Government High school, had joined the CPI Maoist party in the year 2011 as Militia member through LOS commander Somudu and took part in several activities.

In 2014, he was promoted as militia platoon section commander. He was working under the leadership of LOS commander Ramesh since 2016. He participated in ambush on police party in the year 2013 and exchange of fire between police and Maoists at Pavurugudem in June 2016.

He also took part in exchange fire at Thummirel in September 2016 and was accused in the murder of Sodi Bheema of Nanbi village of Usoor taluk branding him as a police informer in June-2017.

Laxmi, who studied 6th class, had joined the Maoist party in August 2016 as she got attracted with the party ideology, literature and songs. She joined the party as militia member through Usuru Dalam commander Ramesh.

She along with Lakku participated in exchanged of fire at Thummirel in the murder of Sodi Bheema.

These two persons were disillusioned with the ideology of Maoists and vexed with their activities. Hence, they decided to live a normal life in the society and quit the party to surrender before the police, the ASP noted.

Calling the underground Maoists to quit the arms, Hegde said ‘Any one of the UG cadres may surrender before the police without any threat. No cases would be booked against those persons, who surrender and they would be provided relief from the government’.

Instant relief of Rs 5,000 in cash was given to each of the surrendered Maoists. CRPF Assistant Commandant Jalam Singh, Venkatapuram Circle Inspector N Ravinder and Sub-Inspector B Kumar were present.
