Sixteen passengers had a narrow escape as the rear end of a private bus caught fire on the outskirts of the city near Pedda Amberpet in the early hours of Friday. The bus was en-route to city from Kakinada. No causalities were reported in the incident. According to Hayathnagar police, flames were noticed at the rear end of the bus (Volvo sleeper) by other vehicles who alerted the bus driver A Srinu. The bus’ crew acted quickly and got the occupants out.

Faulty wiring in the engine is believed to be cause for the fire. The bus was being operated in the route by SVR travels, a private operator. The passengers were sent to the city in a special bus.

Fire tenders from Hayathnagar fire station rushed to the spot and put out the flames. The police registered a case and took up investigation.
