Tharavad, a socio-cultural and charitable society, Kakatiyanagar, Nedremet, R K Puram, celebrated Onam festival on Sunday with cultural programmes performed by Seven Stars, a local cultural group. The audience was enthralled by traditional items like Kai kottikali, Pullavan song, semi-classical dance, Nadodi Nritam, Ona Pattu and light music and cinema songs. The highlight of the programme was someone dressed up as Mahabali arriving on the stage amidst thalapoli and addressing the audience about the good old days when he ruled Kerala and the present day deterioration of the society.

The programme was inaugurated by chief guest Anil Kumar Reddy, IAS. P N V Nair, Editor, The Hans India, and Lt Col. Sukumaran Nair were the guests of honour. The speakers lauded Tharavad for its social activities to help the poor and the needy. The Society aims at imparting training in various art and art forms to the younger generation who are losing touch of the rich customs and traditions of Kerala. The group had organised Onam feast for the abandoned inmates at five orphanages in the city.

The cultural feast was followed by Onasadya. About 400-500 people participated in the programme and enjoyed the feast. The newly formed organization Tharavad has G Prabhakaran Pillai as president and Sateesh Nambiar as secretary.
