When do you actually kill apps? The new feature which came along with the Jellybean android version is the Running Apps list. But for some, it is hard to tell what happens to the app after you have swiped it away.

The new feature which came along with the Jellybean android version is the Running Apps list. But for some, it is hard to tell what happens to the app after you have swiped it away. Does it kill the app and background services and stop eating your RAM? Android developer Dianne Hackborn says, Running Apps quits the app in the same way as pressing the back button does. Removing an entry in the recent tasks will kill any background processes that exist but will not kill the app.

If you want to completely stop an app, you have to long press on the recent tasks and go to the app info and hit force stop. This is a complete kill switch for android applications. After performing this function, the app is not allowed to launch until explicitly requested.
