Mar ’14 Deadline for GHMC Engg Dept Works, GHMC Limits, GHMC Engineering Department. The GHMC engineering wing conducted a review of all the existing and new works and approached the Commissioner with a proforma, which details the number of works in each zone.

All in all, there are 21,484 works pending under the GHMC limits and according to the directions given by the Commissioner in a recent review meeting, these works will have to be completed by the end of March 2014. The budget that has been allocated is Rs 1,46,914 lakh

After receiving much flak over conditions of the roads and incomplete engineering works, the GHMC engineering department had decided to take up all the incomplete projects, along with new projects with a budget of Rs 545 crore. Somesh Kumar, Commissioner, GHMC, said, “These works would be completed by the end of March 2014.”

The GHMC engineering wing conducted a review of all the existing and new works and approached the Commissioner with a proforma, which details the number of works in each zone. The commissioner, has set a monthly target for the projects to be completed. In due process, he has also dropped a few projects which were not viable.

The zone wise segregation of the works are as follows:

East Zone: The east zone consists of four areas like Kapra, ECIL and LB Nagar. In these areas, they have identified a total number of 1,521 works which would be completed with a budget of Rs 9,371.06 lakh. Of all these works, till date, only 442 have been completed.

Central Zone: This zone comprises of divisions 4-10. An estimated 2,546 works have been identified in these areas and it has been decided that they would be completed with a budget of Rs 13,139 lakh. Of the grand total, only 709 projects have been completed.

West Zone: Serilingampally- XI and XII, Patancheru and Kukatpally make up this zone. There are 5,717 works identified in this area, of which 4,525 have been completed. The remainder would be completed with an expenditure of Rs 11,953 lakh.

North Zone: The vicinities of Qutubullapur, Alwal, Malkajgiri, Division-11 and 12, constitute this zone. The engineering department has highlighted 4,755 pending projects in this area. Out of the lump sum, 3,667 have already been completed. The remainder would be completed with a budget of Rs 7,641.38 lakh.

South Zone: Divisions 1, 2 and 3 and Rajendranagar are part of this zone. Officials of the engineering department have identified a total of 6,945 works. They still have 1,878 works pending in this area. The officials plan on accomplishing these tasks with an expenditure of Rs 12,465 lakh.

All in all, they have identified 21,484 works across the GHMC limits and according to the directions given by the Commissioner in a recent review meeting, these works have to be completed by the end of March 2014. The budget that has been allocated is Rs 1,46,914 lakh. It is now upto the officials of the engineering department to take up these works on a war footing basis, in order to stick to the stipulated deadline.

R Dhan Singh, engineer-in-chief, GHMC, said, “ All these works are on-hand and are being completed as per the deadline given to the officials. We want to complete these works by the end of this fiscal year.” He further added that if a contractor is unable to finish the work in the stipulated time, he has to inform the officials at the earliest so that, the GHMC could call for fresh tenders.
