Yet another ice cream joint? Not exactly! Pabrai’s Fresh and Naturelle Ice Creams on Prenderghast Road, is like any other ice cream joint at the first look - An array of various icecream flavours neatly arranged, colourful chairs set amidst pleasant interiors and the friendly staff, more than ready to assist you to choose from the vast range. Pleasant and warm in short!

The flavours too seem familiar. There is a vanilla, roasted almond, chocolate chips, natural chocolate. Our advice is not to ignore them just because you have already tasted these flavours quite a number of times.

Pabrai’s Vanilla for instance is made from imported vanilla pods and not just about vanilla essence and the difference is evident once you taste the creamish (unlike the usual milky white) ice cream dotted with crushed vanilla that is simply delicious. Even in other flavours like the one that use chocolate that is specially processed in-house using high grade cocoa, roasted almond that is a profusion of almonds in ice cream; the recipe and the process of making ice cream itself may have contributed to the flavours that scale a notch higher on the taste metre. Be it anjeer, tender coconut, chikoo or the melon– eating these flavours is more like having the fruits in the form of ice cream; the abundance of chunks of fruits pieces in the ice cream only augments this feeling. The same holds good for Rose Petal ice cream which is like having a delicious preparation made of crushed rose petals. Masala tea, South Indian Coffee, Sandal wood, Wasabi, Lemon Grass, Calcutta Meetha Pan – really? Our advice is to try all of them. Well the unusual flavours of Pabrai ice cream are truly well-researched. The flavour of the ingredients is distinct, yet not over powering. The ice creams are extremely tasty yet not overtly sweet. The price however is on slightly higher side with Vanilla scoop costing the lowest at Rs 49. However the 100% natural ice creams with no artificial flavours or colours and no canned fruits used is as fresh as it can get.

The outlet also serves two varieties of sundaes and of course the one speciality that has consistently remained favourite across the many stores in India is the Nalen Gur ice cream created from the famous khova dessert of West Bengal. The khova-rich ice cream is served with a topping of palm jaggery sauce giving it the unique taste.
