G Sudheer Babu assumed charge as the DCP (north zone), Hyderabad, on Sunday, replacing R Jayalakshmi, who was transferred to the DGP office in a recent shuffle by the Telangana State.
Sudheer belongs to the 2001 IPS batch and is one of the proud recipients of the Indian Police Medal for his outstanding services in the police department. The medal was presented to him during the Independence Day celebrations held at Parade Grounds, Secunderabad, in 2013. Sudheer completed his MA from Jawaharlal Nehru University and is fluent in Telugu, Hindi and English. He has worked as DCP Traffic City Police, Hyderabad; DCP, West Zone; and DCP, Shamshabad, and undertook various other responsible assignments.
Talking to the Hyderabad Hans, Sudheer said, “Working in the police department is an opportunity to serve the people and to perform their duties with pride and honour. I will work for the welfare of citizens and policemen. I look forward to conducting medical camps for policemen from time to time to keep them healthy and fit.”
He stressed that people-friendly policing, which aims to inculcate core values and norms that would motivate to lead the police force with courage, honesty, dedication and strong sense of service to the people, was his main motive.
“A friendly and creative partnership between police and the people will be established, which is the need of the hour. It is to make them recognise and respect the right of every citizen and also make them respond promptly,” he added.
He assured to make the Mythri Committee more active to ensure peace and harmony during festivities. He wants to focus on curbing crime against women, reducing the crimes of the history-sheeters, and various other crimes in all the 11 police stations in the north zone.
Special teams of detectives would be formed to curb thefts at the Secunderabad Railway Station, Jubilee Bus Station and other highly populated centres. To nab culprits, he would deploy police beats and plain clothed policemen.
