Air Vice Marshal Sreekumar Prabhakaran assumed charge as the Commandant of the College of Air Warfare (CAW) on Tuesday. He took over the command from Air Vice Marshal DP Upot. Prabhakaran is a graduate from the National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Indian Air Force on December 22, 1983

Air Vice Marshal Sreekumar Prabhakaran assumed charge as the Commandant of the College of Air Warfare (CAW) on Tuesday. He took over the command from Air Vice Marshal DP Upot. Prabhakaran is a graduate from the National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Indian Air Force on December 22, 1983, as a fighter pilot. He has held a variety of operational and instructional appointments.

He was a Senior Directing Staff (Air) at DSSC, Wellington, and has commanded two flying bases, one each as a Group Captain and as an Air Commodore. Prabhakaran has also served the Embassy of India, Cairo, as the Defence Attache from September 2007 to December 2010. During this assignment, he was also accredited to Cyprus, Sudan and Djibouti. He was been awarded Vayu Sena Medal in October 2005 for his distinguished services.

Prabhakaran commanded the Suryakiran aerobatic team for three years. Under him, the team gave over 150 public demonstrations without any accidents during training or displays. During his tenure the team was awarded the Chief of Air Staff’s ‘Unit Citation’ award. In March 2004, he led the team to Singapore, where for the first time the team took part in an international air show at a foreign base. Under his leadership the team also performed at Bangkok International Airport and Yangon International Airport.
