As a player, he was all grace and cast more in the mould of Prakash Padukone. As a pupil he commanded the continued admiration of the sport’s most revered Dronacharya, SM Arif, who considers Chetan Anand as one of the finest shuttlers India has produced. On a pleasant Saturday morning, the student donned the role of a mentor, as far as Hyderabad is concerned. An ambitiously planned badminton academy will see the Arjuna awardee as the guiding force for the next generation of youngsters.

Chetan Anand Badminton Academy (CABA) was formally inaugurated by his guru, the ever humble Arif to thunderous applause by the sizeable audience that assembled at Ganges Valley School/Gokaraju Gangaraju Institute of Engineering & Technology campus at Bachupally in Hyderabad. “It will be different from the existing academies. Moreover, with four courts and ultra-modern infrastructural facilities, our academy is equipped to conduct premier championships.

Our focus is to provide platforms to budding talent and help them realise their dreams if making a name in the world of badminton. With professional coaches on-board, CABA will provide the perfect ambience to the novice,” explained the former Commonwealth Games medallist. In order to capitalise on the holiday season, the academy has commenced with a 40-day summer coaching camp, which will have training sessions from 6 to 9 am and 4 to 7 pm all through the weekdays.

“We are cost-effective. Subsequently, we will have regular training sessions once the academic year begins,” he pointed out. Vani Ranga Raju, director of Ganges Valley School, assured to extend all help to the academy. Meanwhile, Arif cautioned his protégé that he should not get into the competitive mode. “It is good that players are competitive. But their competitiveness should not spoil the spirit of the game,” the genial master pointed out. Students interested in enrolling in the academy can contact the coaches either at the campus or on Tel Nos: 98855-33357/96669-89000.
