Tukaram Gate Police conducted an awareness camp at its police station on Sunday over community policing and the need to install CCTVs in Teachers Colony and East Marredpally colonies to curb crimes. The camp was attended by welfare associations and a few businessmen. T Laxminarayana, Station House Officer, Tukaram Gate Police said, “On an average, nearly 2,000 cameras will be required to cover the entire jurisdiction of a particular police station.

Under the Public Security (Measures) Enforcement Act, we have been persuading colonies and apartment owners, business establishments and educational institutions to install security cameras to ensure community policing.” “While fixed cameras can be installed at points where by-lanes join the main road, dome cameras which can be panned, tilted or zoomed from the control room located in Tukaram Gate Police Police Station, can be fixed at junctions to keep a tag on suspicious people.

We will have a database of such elements. If the same person again enters any area, we will get an alert through the server and he will be caught immediately thereby preventing a crime,” said Laxminarayana. Currently in the Tukaram Gate Police Station jurisdiction, 90 cameras are installed in 8 colonies in Mahendra Hills.
