Hyderabad: Several key civic infrastructure projects for the city worth about Rs 4,000 crore have hit a roadblock and remain on paper due to delay in acquiring land for the purpose. The GHMC intended to take up projects worth Rs 28,000 crore in 2015. The projects include Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). It alone is estimated to cost Rs 27,000 crore. The remaining Rs 1,000 crore is to be spent on foot over bridge (FOB) project.

These two projects are proposed as part of the plan to develop Hyderabad as a global smart city. According to the officials, land acquisition has turned to be a major problem to launch the project. In the first phase, the multi-level flyovers, including six at the KBR park junction and surrounding roads, LB Nagar and surrounding junctions, Rasoolpura Junction, Uppal and Owaisi junctions and a major corridor for Biodiversity junction to Kukatpally, Bahadurpura Junction and Elevated Corridor from Abids GPO to Chaderghat and Malakpet are to be taken up. In all the GHMC has proposed to construct 20 flyovers.

The prime hindrance to launch the project is to acquire land for which citizens are unwilling to part with, the officials said. As many as 1,000 properties of both public and private are to be acquired to start the projects. It is learnt that the construction firms are not showing much interest in the project as the GHMC floated tenders under a single package rather than floating separately. If a firm bags the tender, it has to construct all the five FoBs. They want the tenders to be invited separately for each FoB, the officials added.
