As part of their efforts towards creating awareness about anti- human trafficking, the US Consulate General, Hyderabad along with activist, Dr Sunitha Krishnan screened a documentary, ‘Swaraksha’ at Prasad Preview Theatre in Banjara Hills on Monday.

The film aims at being a tutorial to help other NGOs organise anti-human trafficking grass root campaigns along with the caravan. The caravan started from Hyderabad on January 9, 2016 and ended in Bhubaneswar on May 22, 2016. The video covers the five-month journey across 16,000km and 53 districts across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha for the cause.

Speaking after the screening, Dr Sunitha Krishna said that this campaign is one-of-its-kind and during the five months of journey, around 30 NGOs participated in it, were 40 traffickers came out and disclosed the crime they faced.

“With the help of this campaign many people were made aware about the issue. We will take this campaign nationwide by 2018,” she said. Consul General Katherine Hadda participated in the programme and released the video copies.

Later, a panel discussion was held about ‘Finding Solutions to Human Trafficking’ in which Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the State of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Justice S V Bhatt; Secretary for Department of Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizen, M Jagadeeshwar; Inspector-General of Police and Crime Investigation Department (CID), Soumya Mishra and Commissioner of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, Mahesh M Bhagwat participated.
