M Sai Mukund, 12-year-old from Pune sang Bhajans and Natya Geet in Marathi language at a programme organised at Saptaparni, Banjara Hills, recently. It was very nice to see a Telugu boy having good command over Marathi language due to his long stay in Pune and also the strong voice that he brought in the performance.

Sai Mukund is a disciple of Sunil Pasalkar from Pune. He started the programme with ‘Arambhi Vandina Ayodhyecha Raja’ in Raga Mishra Kalavati on Lord Rama. This was followed by ‘Majhe Maher Pandhari’ in Raga Mishra Mand. Then came the song ‘Pandhari Nivasa’ in Raga Alhaiya Bilawal followed by a ‘Natya Geet’ in Raga Mishra Mand. After this, Mukund sang “Deva Gharche Dnyat Kunala’” in Raga Yaman after which came another Natya Geet “ Saad Deti Himashikare” in Raga Brindavani Sarang.

His sister M Gowri Manogna also sang a Bhajan “Amruta Huni Goda Naam Tujh Devaa”. Mukund further went on to sing the popular classical song “Mana Mandira” from the Marathi movie ‘Katiyar Kaljat Ghusali’ in Raga Desh. He concluded the recital with the beautiful bhajan in Raga Bhairavi “Dhanya Bhaag Seva Ka Avasara Paya” which has been made popular by the eternal Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. Both artistes received blessings from Dadasaheb Phalke award winner and Telugu film director K Viswanath, of ‘Shankarabharanam’ fame.
