Excerpts:
When did you think of becoming a host?
Honestly, never had it on my radar. During college days, someone told me at a personality contest that I have a good voice and that’s how it got my attention and so the journey began.
Did you face any hiccups while becoming a radio broadcaster or host?
Yep, initially when I started my career it was only my voice that got me a radio job. Later realised, one needs to have a good command over the language, diction, speech clarity. Had to consciously work on all these aspects.
What was your first show and how was your experience?
Wow, Nostalgia. My first show was back in 2002, a fashion event for a friend of mine in Kolhapur where in Gauhar Khan was the show stopper. Nervous, cold feet and a sea of emotions, first time addressing so many people including some top dignitaries and royal family. Thankfully no goof ups.
Who is your inspiration in your field?
Can’t think of anyone in particular but yes given an option somewhere Ellen DeGeneres. The ease with which she communicates and improvises really inspires me.
Is Pro Kabaddi League helping the unsung heroes of Kabaddi?
Without a doubt, everyone now talks about the sport and more importantly the players. The players have dedicated their lives to the sport and are getting the due recognition.
You are hosting the Kabaddi League from 2015 and what are the changes that you observed in Kabaddi during this period?
People have loved and welcomed the sport with tremendous love year on year. The viewership has increased, the fan following for the sport has quadrupled, addition of four new teams speaks volumes of the league. This India ka khel has become an uber cool sport.
In your opinion what is the success mantra for upcoming hosts?
An anchor should own the content/script that one has to deliver. Always connect to the audience with what they would like to hear. Most importantly stay grounded.
What are your future plans? Any leads to become an actor or continue as a host?
Currently, I voice, anchor and train as well but I’m always open to newer challenges and yes, I will be venturing into acting as well.
