Musheerabad: The producers and exhibitors have been on strike with the theatres and multiplexes in the city shutdown from March 2 against the attitude of Digital Service Providers. A Joint Action Committee was formed to discuss about the DSPs collecting huge amount from theatres every week and are also earning revenue through advertisements, an ongoing exercise as of now.

Manager of Sandhya theatre Rama Rao said that ‘the closure of theatres in city is because of DSPs and our representations did not work. So we decided to shut down the theatres until there is any solution for it. He said that one day closure of theatres is a huge loss for us but this strike will be indefinite’.

Rama Rao also said that apart from the theatres, the closure will have a great affect on road side vendors, eateries and daily wagers working in theatres as their business will go down.

As an affirmation of this, the closure of theatres is not only a disappointment for the audience and movie lovers but also for the road side vendors, eateries, tiffin centres, daily wagers and others as they have been losing their daily business since past two days.

A worker at a tiffin centre in Musheerabad said that in the past two days the business has gone down as the theatres are closed. There are not many people when compared to other days. She said that when there are movie shows there is huge crowd near the theatre but now it has affected the business also.

Another vendor near Sudarshan theatre said that since past few weeks the business is going doing as there were not much movie releases and now that the theaters are shutdown there is more effect on the business. He said that during the morning there is heavy rush, but it has reduced.
